Sammie Lee Johnson affectionately known as “KoolAide” passed away on January 16, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi Sr. & Elztia (Zata) Johnson, 12 of 15 of his brothers & sisters, and his grandson De'Ago DaVon Robinson.
KoolAide was born in a town around Pine Bluffs, Arkansas in 1958. He was the youngest out of 15 children. At an early age, The Blues became his passion. One day he picked up a guitar and never put it down. He's never had a teacher or instructor to teach him how to play a guitar. KoolAide was self-taught. He would listen to a record over and over until he could hear the note. Over time, his ears and fingers were automatically programed, and he could hear a song one time and could play the song note for note. The man was a genius when it came to a guitar. He was influenced by musicians like James Brown, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Little Milton just to name a few.
KoolAide was a loving father. He worked on trying to be the best person he knew how to be. The many facets of his interests formed the interesting man he grew to become. Yet to people surrounding him; he was more. He was a dear father, brother, mentor, protector, and entertainer.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories: a brother, his sisters, his two sons Sammie Jr. & Kennie Sr., his two daughters Monica & Tiffany, grandchildren, great grandchilden, nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, a host of band members, friends, fans, and his musician family.
